An oval pit circa 13m by 20m in size is identifiable as an earthwork under dense tree cover on the south-east facing slopes of the Tory Brook combe, on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. A curved bank or mound is visible on the downslope side of the pit.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey and it is probable that they are the remains of a small quarry or extractive pit that predates the creation of the deer park and it’s associated plantations in 1700.
