Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.

A curvilinear channel is visible on the north-facing slopes overlooking Smallhanger Brook as an earthwork up to 3m wide and over 520m long.
The visible earthwork corresponds with a water channel or leat depicted on the 19th and early 20th century maps available to the survey, probably fed by a spring that sises south of Hemerdon Farm to the east.
The channel has been bisected by the route of the B3417, and presumably culverted, but remains depicted on the current OS MasterMap base map to circa SX55595730 where it turns north to feed back into the Smallhanger Brook.
West of this point circa 240m of the channel has probably been near levelled. The easternmost 270m of the earthwork remains partly visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
