A curvilinear hollow is visible on the north-west-facing slopes overlooking Smallhanger Brook as an earthwork up to 10m wide and 70 long.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any feature depicted on the 19th and early 20th century maps available to the survey and it therefore ceased to be used prior to circa 1840.
The earthwork closely follows the line of the 30m contour and its alignment could be interpreted as a continuation of a leat visible as an earthwork to the east of Old Newnham (MDV126248).
Alternatively, the hollow could be evidence of a former access road or drive from Newnham Road.
The earthwork remains identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
