Two roughly circular pits are identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as earthworks circa 17 and 22m across under dense tree.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pits depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey, but both fall into plots listed as woodland on the Tithe Map for Plympton St Mary (Plot 1268 and 1269, Orchard and Wood respectively).
The earthworks are interpreted as extractive pits or small quarries of probable post-medieval to 19th century date that had ceased to be used and integrated into woodland prior to circa 1840.
