A roughly D-shaped pit or circa 41m by 29m in size is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs of 1946 on the north-west facing slopes near the summit of a hill east of Sandy Road, Sparkwell.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey.
It is interpreted as a possible extractive pit potentially of post-medieval to 19th century date that had ceased to be used prior to the late-19th century.
The pit and has been near levelled and is visible only as a very slight earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
