Two circular pits, circa 25m and 10m in diameter, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The larger earthwork to the south corresponds with land parcel 22 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe map which is recorded as ‘Waste in Cudleigh’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. The northern earthwork does not, however, correspond with any such features on this map, or on later available historic maps. They are interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pits which had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Treby Wood.
