(Visited 10/07/2001) A tin openwork on the eastern flank of the Redwater Valley 500 metres south-west of Birch Tor. The openwork is over 280 metres long and 80 metres wide at the widest point. It is 6 to 8 metres deep. It probably dates from the post-medieval period of tinworking on Dartmoor, c.1450-1750.
Water was supplied via a leat (see MDV126477) which has its source at the head of the neighbouring West Webburn valley and extends around the south slopes of Birch Tor. The lode was named Garden Lode in the 19th century and a single shaft and adit survive from that period on the floor of the openwork together with a small rectangular building.
