Summary
A catch meadow of probable 19th to early 20th century date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as several narrow curvilinear earthwork ditches on the south-east facing slopes of a south-facing combe, south of Heath Farm, Sparkwell. The earthworks are not identifiable as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1951.

Curvilinear ditches are visible as earthworks.

The gutters were not identifiable as earthworks and have probably been levelled.

Curvilinear ditches are visible as earthworks up to circa 2m wide and up to circa 75m long on aerial photographs of 1946, closely following the contours of the south-east facing slope of a combe south of Heath Farm.
The channels are probably the gutters of a former catch meadow of post-medieval to early 20th century date. Such systems used springs or streams to irrigate combe slopes rather than the valley floor. Originating in the medieval period they were in widespread use in Devon in the 19th and early 20th centuries. It is probable that this system had been unused for some time by the 1940s.
The gutters were not identifiable as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1951 and have probably been levelled.
