Curviliner banks or mounds 5 to 10m wide and exceeding 100m in length are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 on the eastern bank of the River Plym at Bickleigh Vale, Sparkwell.
The earthworks correspond closely with features depicted on the Ordnance Survey First and Second Edition 25inch maps of the 1880s and early 20th century and are probably the remains of spoil dumps associated with the 19th century Cann Quarry to the north (MDV17588).
The earthworks remain schematically depicted on the current Ordnance Survey MasterMap base layer.
