Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The Tithe Map shows this building as a dwelling apparently with attached agricultural buildings at either end. Originally the house extended further to the south, with a, L-shaped wing.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map (and later early 20th century version), show the L-shaped wing to the south of the main building has been extended further to the east, with a structure parallel to the main building.

Dartmoor National Park Authority, 1978, Dartmoor Grade III listed buildings - Whitchurch (List of Blds of Arch or Historic Interest). SDV357166.

Holwell, SX500731
Outbuilding forming part of the old house. Colourwashed rubble with slate roof and stone stack. Two storey. Sashes and wood casements. Part now barn with single light granite window. 17th century. Needs new roof. Dovecotes and pigeon holes noted. Two images (presumably dating to the late 1970s) included.

Ordnance Survey, 2019, MasterMap 2019 (Cartographic). SDV362729.

The modern mapping shows on the northern part of the building has survived; no sign of the L-shaped southern wing now (doesn’t appear to have continued beyond the early-mid 19th century).
