Two circular pits circa 9m in diameter are visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as earthworks circa 140m apart on the former north-facing slopes of Headon Down.
The pattern of upcast material surrounding the pits supports their interpretation as Second World War Bomb Craters.
By the late 1960s the Hemerdon and Broomage China Clay Works had expanded into this area, resulting in the destruction of the crater earthworks.
