Summary
An embanked ditch, probably a leat of medieval to post-medieval date, is identifiable as an earthwork crossing the west-facing slopes of Crownhill Down. The earthworks are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The north-western end of the earthwork has been destroyed by modern mining.

An embanked ditch is identifiable on aerial photographs of the 1940s and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork crossing the west-facing slopes of Crownhill Down, overlooking the Torycombe Valley.
The ditch is up to 2m wide and most clearly embanked on the southern edge, although a slight bank is visible on the north edge on the aerial photographs of 1946.
The ditch is interpreted as a leat, potentially of medieval to post-medieval date, which might have been fed by the Wheal Florence Drain, immediately to the south (MDV43422).
The ditch is not depicted on the 19th or 20th century maps available to the survey and might have passed out use prior to the 1840s.
The north-western circa 13m of the earthwork has been destroyed by modern mining activity.
