An embanked ditch is identifiable on aerial photographs of the 1940s and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as an earthwork crossing the west-facing slopes of Crownhill Down, overlooking the Torycombe Valley.
The ditch is 2 to 4m wide and up to circa 180m long. It is most clearly embanked on the north edge nearest the bottom of the slope, where the ditch also splays to its widest.
The ditch does not correspond with any feature depicted on the 19th or 20th century maps available to the survey but is aligned on a field boundary to the north-west. It is interpreted as the remains of a field boundary, potentially representing a phase of enclosure onto Crownhill Down during the later medieval to post-medieval periods. It had passed out use prior to the 1840s. Similar features are visible to the south.
