The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.

An irregularly shaped pit circa 24m across is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as an earthwork on the east-facing slopes north of Fernhill Wood. A similarly size mound is visible immediately downslope of the pit.
The earthworks are interpreted as the remains of a small quarry or extractive pit of probable post-medieval date.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25inch First Edition map but do fall within an area depicted as rough ground. It is probable therefore that the pit passed out of use prior to the 1880s.
