Recorded during survey in 2012. A group of five features recorded as turf mounds. Function unconfirmed but it is most likely that these mounds were raised deliberately as platforms for peat drying or for charring peat, as with the meilers also recorded in this survey.

Full description

Newman, P., 2012, An archaeological survey of features situated on the unnamed ridge between the head region of the Taw River and Steeperton Brook (centred SX8725 6135), TM 1-5 (Report - Survey). SDV360396.

A group of five features recorded as turf mounds. Appear to be made up solely of turf, the largest of which is elliptical in shape with a footprint of 12.5m by 7.8m. Most likely that these mounds were raised deliberately as platforms for peat drying or for charring peat, as with the meilers also recorded in this survey.
