Full description
Newman, P., 2012, An archaeological survey of features situated on the unnamed ridge between the head region of the Taw River and Steeperton Brook (centred SX8725 6135), ME 1-2 (Report - Survey). SDV360396.
Two of the mounds recorded are likely to be meilers; the earthwork remains of peat charcoal production. ME1 (western mound) is amorphous in form and has been disturbed; originally had a flat upper surface (now dug into). Roughly circular, it measures between 11 and 13m in diameter. An exposed section on the north side revealed samples of burnt charcoal.
ME2 is less disturbed and has a flattish top surface and also showed evidence of charred peat.
