Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Irregular shaped reservoir shown on 19th century map to the west of Hemerdon and Broomage China Clay Works on the east side of Crownhill Down. A 115 long metre dam is shown on the southeast side of the reservoir.

Site visited on 5th July 1979. Hemerdon clayworks reservoir 80 metres long by 50 metres wide. Supplied by a leat from SX57386057 junction at SX57385991.

Two small reservoirs at SX57385988 and SX57345936 are part of the early phase of the Hemerdon and Broomage China Clay Works. This reservoir lies in a slight depression and has a stone faced earthen dam 114 metres long and up to 1.6 metres high.
