Summary

The houses along Fort Street were built in the second half of the 19th century. Several were demolished to make way for the relief road. The road leads to the site of the civil war fort that formerly stood on Fort Hill.

Fort Street shown, leading, as its name implies, to the former fort that stood on Fort Hill.

Fort Street marked. Comparison with 19th century map shows that further houses were added on the south side of the road in the late 19th or early 20th century. Hill View to the north was also built at this time.

Fort Street dates to the second half of the 19th century. The houses built of yellow and orange brick with decorative string courses. Several of the houses will be affected by the proposed relief road.
