A curvilinear earthwork ditch, approximately a metre wide, is visible on a north facing slope east of Langdon Barton, on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards. It broadly follows the contour, and is interpreted as the gutter of a post-medieval or 19th century catchmeadow. It may have operated as an integrated system, whereby water was mingled with manure at the farmstead to both irrigate and fertilise the land. No features are depicted in this exact location on the late-19th century Ordnance Survey mapping, suggesting that the system had fallen out of use by this time. The earthwork seems to survive and can be seen on visualisations of lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017.
