Summary

Two possible Prehistoric barrows in the streamwork on the south side of Crownhill Down. The possible barrow earthworks were not noted on any aerial photographs or lidar derived images. The earthworks have been destroyed by the expansion of open cast mining on Crownhill Down.

Greeves, T. A. P., 1980, Crownhill Down Barrow Cemetery (Worksheet). SDV343793.

Two probable barrows on the northern edge of tin streamworks visited on 11th April 1980. Two discrete small circular mounds, 2-3 metres diameter. Too regular to suggest mining waste heaps, though very close to tin workings. Probable Prehistoric barrows.

Two very small turf-covered mounds set within an area if tin prospedting pits and adjacent to an extensive openwork. Their origin and function are uncertain but they are doubtfully Prehistoric barrows. Other details: NMR Number SX55NE27.

No possible barrow earthworks were noted on any aerial photographs or lidar derived images available to the survey. Any earthworks in this area have been destroyed by the expansion of open cast mining on Crownhill Down.
