Full description

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.

A pit is identifiable as an earthwork.

A roughly square pit circa 15m to a side is visible as an earthwork on the north-west-facing slopes north-east of Little Pethill on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey, although an adjacent field boundary, potentially of medieval origin, does appear to respect the location of the pit.
This might support the interpretation of the earthwork as an extractive pit of medieval date that had passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
