A curvilinear ditch is visible as an earthwork up to circa 2.5m wide and 210 long on aerial photographs of 1946, closely following the contours of the south-east-facing slopes west of Lower Whittaborough.
The ditch is probably the remains of a former catch meadow gutter associated with Lower Whittaborough farm, probably of 19th to early 20th century date, probably.
Such systems used springs or streams to irrigate combe slopes, rather than valley floors. Originating in the medieval period they were in widespread use in Devon in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The ditch remains largely identifiable as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013, although the eastern end might have been destroyed by modern development.
