An irregularly shaped pit, circa 77m long by 22m wide, is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available 19th century mapping, although an earthwork labelled as ‘Old Quarry’ (MDV16529) is shown in proximity to the south on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. The earthwork is therefore interpreted as a post-medieval or early to mid-19th century quarry which had passed out of use by the late 19th century. The earthwork is not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
