An earthwork of an irregularly shaped pit, circa 23m long by 14m wide, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017. The earthwork does not correspond with any pit features in this location on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, although earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarries’ are shown in proximity to the west. The earthwork has possibly been truncated by, and so pre-dates, an earthwork gutter of a 19th century catch meadow system (MDV127451). It is therefore interpreted as a possible post-medieval or early 19th century quarry which had passed out of use by the mid to late 19th century.
