A probable former well possibly of medieval to post-medieval date, is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 to 2002 as an oval pit on the north-west facing slopes to the south-west of Bigbury village. The pit has been levelled.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible pit corresponds with a letter 'W' depicted on the first edition map.

The pit corresponds with a letter ‘w’ depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map, potentially indicating the location of a well.
The hollow remains visible as earthworks under pasture on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2002 but has been levelled or near levelled by 2007 following the plot’s conversion to crop cultivation.
