Summary

Alleged cairn - reclassified as a natural feature. This site was assessed in 1996 but was not scheduled. Plym Valley survey in 2002 also suggests it is a natural feature. Butler (1994) records it as a 'small cairn (3.5 metres diameter by 0.4 metres high)'.

(04/09/1975) SX 5857 6449 Cairn found, diameter 3.5 metres height 0.4 metres.

(18/08/1980) An intensive search failed to reveal this cairn at SX58596447 situated in an area of bracken, best looked for in winter.

(05/06/1996) Nothing visible at Grid Reference SX58596447 other than a number of hummocks covering probable large earthfast rocks. Not recommended for scheduling.

Upper Spanish Lake Cairn '5' at SX58596447 of 3.5 metres diameter by 0.3 metres high is the eastern of three cairns. It may have held a cist as the edge of a narrow slab is visible near the centre. (Figure 51.6 shows this cairn much closer to the other two at SX58556445)
