Full description

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

Enclosure shown on 19th century map but not the hut circles.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1950, SX66SW21, SX66SW21 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV167077.

National Monuments Record, 1976, NMR SX6361, 1 (Aerial Photograph). SDV138823.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1977, SX66SW21, Enclosure D (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV165980.

Site visited on 4th August 1977. Two Type 2 hut circles, have average internal diameters of 7.0 metres and walls about 1.2 metres wide. They predate the enclosure; one, in fair condition, is built on the wall line, the other, fragmentary, is on the outside.

Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Dartmoor) - Dartmoor Pre-NMP (Cartographic). SDV319854.

Hut circle in perimeter wall of enclosure not visible on the 1976 aerial photograph.

Butler, J., 1993, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Four - The South-East, 41-42, Map 54, Figure 54.4 (Monograph). SDV337765.

Hut '7' on the eastern perimeter of Enclosure 'C' has a diameter of 5.1 metres.

Newman, P., 2018, Erme Valley Survey data (GIS and Excel spreadsheet) (Cartographic). SDV361913.

Hut circle shown on survey.

Newman, P., 2018, The Upper Erme Valley, Dartmoor National Park, Devon: An Archaeological Survey, Appendix 1 (Report - Survey). SDV362921.

One large hut circle is built into the south-west arc of the enclosure and probably predates it. Surviving stone suggests the hut had an internal diameter of approximately 8.2 metres though the walls are now spread to 3.3 metres wide and turf covered. Attached to the eastern arc of the hut against the interior of the enclosure is a small turf covered circle with an internal diameter of approximatey 3.3 metres. On the eastern exterior adjacent to a kink in the enclosure wall a circle of eleven small stones is all that survives of a third hut circle with an internal diameter of 5.2 metres.

Ordnance Survey, 2020, MasterMap 2020 (Cartographic). SDV363413.

Hut circle shown on modern mapping.
