Full description
Hood, A., 2010, Later Iron Age and Early Roman Settlement at Willand Road, Cullompton, 61, 70, 79, 82 (Article in Serial). SDV363624.
A programme of archaeological works on the site of a new medical centre revealed a number of features including pits and possible postholes. A fragment of oak charcoal from pit 1031 returned a calibrated radiocarbon date of AD530-660.
It is considered that the charcoal represents the remains of fuel from a fire and the pit is, therefore, good, albeit limited, evidence for early to mid Saxon settlement activity in the area.
