Summary

A former field boundary of possible medieval origin is identifiable as a low earthwork bank on aerial photographs of 1946, on the gentle north-west-facing slopes south of Cutwell Barn. The bank has since been levelled.

The visible earthworks do not correspond with any field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Ugborough.

A low and probably spread bank is visible as a subtle earthwork up to circa 16m wide and 115m long.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any boundary depicted on the 19th or early 20th century maps available to the survey but is in keeping with the character of the surrounding field pattern, which has been characterised by HLC as medieval enclosure based on strip fields.
The bank is interpreted as the remains of a strip field boundary of possible medieval origin that had been cleared prior to the early 19th century.
It is not identifiable as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 1999 and, with the surrounding boundaries which had also been cleared in the second half of the 20th century, has probably been levelled.
