An oval pit or hollow approximately 68m by 33m in size is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 as an earthwork under pasture on the south-east facing combe slope to the south-east of Ugborough village.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any pit depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.
It is interpreted as the remains of a quarry or extractive pit of probable post-medieval to early 19th century date, that had passed out of use prior to circa 1880.
The pit remains clearly identifiable as an earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2010.
