A hollow is visible as an oval earthwork circa 38m by 20m in size on the north-west facing slopes south of Kitterford Cross, Ugborough.
The visible earthwork is interpreted as the remains of a small quarry or extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century date.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit depicted on the Tithe Map for Ugborough or the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map and might therefore have ceased to be used prior to the 1840s.
The plot (1501) is named as Quarry Park on the Tithe Apportionments and it is possible that the name derives from the relict, earlier feature rather than that depicted on the 19th century maps.
The pit remains identifiable as a very slight earthwork on digital visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013.
