An irregularly shaped pit, circa 65m long by 20m wide, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken in 1995 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The western half of the earthwork lies within land parcel 2650 on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map and the eastern half within land parcel 2645. These are recorded as ‘Orchard’ and ‘Marl Park’, respectively, on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. The eastern half also corresponds with a curvilinear feature on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. This supports the interpretation that the earthwork represents an extractive pit, possibly for marl, of post-medieval or early 19th century date which had fallen out of use by the mid-19th century.
