Summary
A sub-circular pit, interpreted as a post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pit, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2015. The pit had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century.

A sub-circular pit, circa 20m diameter, is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs taken from 1946 onwards and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2015. The visible earthwork corresponds with land parcel 157 on the mid-19th century Dean Prior Parish Tithe Map, which is recorded as ‘Garden’ on the accompanying Tithe Apportionment. It is therefore interpreted as a post-medieval or early 19th century extractive pit which had likely passed out of use by the mid-19th century, by which time the redundant pit had evidently become established as a garden.
