Earthworks of two irregularly shaped pits and a bank, between 16m and 30m long, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available historic maps, which show this area as comprising woodland, although earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarries’ are shown in proximity to the northeast on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. They are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries, with associated spoil heap, which had likely passed out of use by the late 19th century. The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover.
