Summary
Earthworks of two irregularly shaped pits and a curvilinear bank are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019. They are interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries with associated spoil heap which had likely passed out of use by the mid to late 19th century.

Earthworks of two adjacent irregularly shaped pits, both circa 32m long, and outer curvilinear bank, circa 7m wide, are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit or bank features depicted in this location on the available historic maps, although earthworks labelled as ‘Quarry’ are shown in proximity to the north on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map. They are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or early 19th century quarries with associated spoil heap which had likely passed out of use by the mid to late 19th century.
