Summary

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.
Linear banks and hollows are identifiable as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 on the south-east facing slopes overlooking the Sheepham Brook.
A bank at circa SX65995288 corresponds in part with a truncated boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury. The field pattern in this area has been characterised as being of medieval origin.
It is probable that the remaining relict earthworks are also evidence of former field boundaries of medieval date that were cleared prior to the early-19th century.
Ditches of a probably later-19th century catch meadow are visible cutting the earlier boundary earthworks and area recorded separately as MDV128313.
