Summary
Field boundaries of probable medieval origin are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 on the east-facing slopes south and east of Whitely Cross. These and a further bank under Stidston's Copse are identifiable as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.

Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.
Two curvilinear banks 5 to 10m wide and up to circa 200m long are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 obliquely crossing the east-facing slopes south and east of Whitely Cross.
The banks correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Ermington but not the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map.
This supports the interpretation that the banks, which are located within an area characterised by HLC as medieval enclosure based on strip fields, are probably of medieval origin but were removed from use between circa 1840 and 1880.
A third bank identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 as an earthwork extending north-west for circa 150m under the tree cover of Stidston's Copse, is probably of comparable date.
