Closely spaced parallel earthwork banks, circa 4m wide are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 on the west-facing spur south of Scalders Lane, Modbury.
The banks resemble earthworks typically make to improve drainage and increased soil depth for tree planting in orchards of 19th or early 20th century date.
The plot in which the banks are visible is not listed as an orchard on the Tithe Map for Modbury (Plot 1226, Peters Park, pasture).
This could support the interpretation of the banks as evidence of 19th or early 20th century agricultural improvement, or of an orchard that was cleared prior to 1840.
