Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments (Cartographic). SDV359954.

The earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury. The apportionments list Plot 1225, Sedgewell, as pasture.

Two earthwork banks up to circa 4m wide and 70m long are visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs of 1989 and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 crossing the south-facing slopes of the a west-facing spur south of Scalders Lane. A scarp up to 7m wide, defining the eastern edge of a hollow, is also visible circa 10m to the east of the banks.
The earthworks do not correspond with any boundaries depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury but are in keeping with the character of the surrounding medieval field pattern and are interpreted as the remains of field boundaries of medieval origin that were cleared prior to circa 1840.
