Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The visible earthworks correspond in part with a quarry.

Oval pits are visible aerial photographs of 1946 as earthworks on the south-east facing slopes overlooking the Shilstone Brook, north-east of Shilstone Bridge.
The visible earthworks correspond in part with a quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1880s 25inch First Edition map which might support the interpretation of the pits as extractive pits of 19th century date.
However, the additional relict pits visible immediately to the west support the interpretation that earlier episodes of quarrying are also represented, and the extractive activity could have originated in the post-medieval period.
The pits remain identifiable as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019,
