The visible earthwork corresponds with a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury.

The visible earthwork does not correspond with any field boundary depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map.

A linear hollow is visible as an earthwork.

An earthwork ditch or hollow circa 170m long and 10m wide is identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 on the south-west facing combe slopes north of Brownston.
The visible earthwork corresponds with a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury but not on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map.
The ditch is interpreted as a former field boundary, probably a boundary of medieval origin based on strip fields, that was cleared between circa 1840 and 1880.
