A north-east to south-west aligned bank circa 5m wide and 110m long is identifiable as a curvilinear earthwork bank on the south-east facing slopes east of Ayleston Cross on aerial photographs of 1946 and 1989.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any boundary depicted on the Tithe Map for Modbury but is in keeping with the character of the surrounding field pattern, which has been characterised by HLC as medieval enclosures.
It is interpreted as the remains of a field boundary of probable medieval origin that was removed by the early 19th century.
The bank is not identifiable as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 and has probably been levelled.
