Hegarty, C., Knight, S. and Sims, R., 2019-2020, The South Devon Coast to Dartmoor Aerial Investigation and Mapping Survey. Area 2, Avon Valley to Plymouth (AI&M, formerly NMP) (Interpretation). SDV362982.

Closely spaced parallel earthwork banks circa 5m wide and circa 45m long are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 crossing the contours of the south-west facing slopes south of Heathfield Farm, over an area of approximately 0.4ha.
The banks are interpreted as earthworks created to improve drainage and increased soil depth for tree planting in an orchard.
The plot in which the banks are visible is listed as pasture on the Tithe Map for Aveton Gifford Plot 187, Wood Ends), but the plot immediately to the south is listed as an orchard (Plot 99, Orchard) and remains depicted as such on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map.
This could support the interpretation of the banks as part of an orchard of post-medieval to 19th century date that was reduced in size prior to 1840.
The banks are not identifiable as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 and have probably been levelled.
