Full description

Brown, S., 2011, East Holme, Newton St Cyres: Historic Building Recording and Watching Brief (Report - Watching Brief). SDV363641.

A watching brief was maintained during ground excavations for new piping underneath the house. A small rectangular pit containing a prehistoric vessel and a lithic blade was excavated. The vessel had been broken before being placed deliberately into the pit in a structured manner. The pit was cut by medieval pits thought to be tree throws (see MDV108286).

Quinell, H., 2013, A Pit with a Middle Bronze Age Vessel at East Holme, Newton St Cyres (Article in Serial). SDV357228.

As part of excavations within East Holme, several pits were idenfitified. One of these was a prehistoric pit (pit No. 9) which was partially destroyed by a medieval pit (likely to be a tree hole - Pit 8). Pit 9 contained sherds of a middle Bronze Age vessel (MDV108285). The pit also contained one small flint flake and the charcoal was submitted for the selection of suitable material for radiocarbon dating.
