A pit is visible on aerial photographs of 1951 as an oval earthwork up to circa 25m across cut into the north-east facing slope west of Bowringsleigh.
The pit does not correspond with any pit or quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25inch map but was probably an extractive pit or small quarry associated with a quarry depicted circa 15m to the east, that ceased to be worked by the later 19th century.
The pit is obscured from view by the dense tree cover of Bowringsleigh Wood on images derived from aerial photographs of 2015 but might survive as an earthwork.
