A curvilinear bank circa 9m wide and 75m long is identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 as a subtle earthwork bank on the north-west facing slope to the north-east of Ilton farm.
The visible earthwork does not correspond with any feature depicted on the Tithe Map for Malborough. However, it is in keeping with the character of the field pattern depicted to the south, which was extant until the mid-20th century, and the surrounding field pattern has been characterised by HLC as medieval enclosure based on strip fields.
The relict earthwork is interpreted as evidence of a field boundary of medieval origin that had been removed prior to circa 1840.
