Robinson, R. + Hankin, C., 1980, Cairn on south-west slope of Penn Beacon (Worksheet). SDV151761.

(April 1980) SX 5940 6260 (Approximate). A previously unrecorded barrow on the south-west slope of Penn Beacon overlooking Cholwich Town Waste. Lies on roughly the same contour as that listed by Grinsell as Cornwood no. 3 (at SX 5951 6248: MDV12909) and on a bearing of approximately 330 degrees from it, at a distance of around 200 metres. It is quite close to the unrecorded cairn at SX 5950 6265, lying on a bearing of about 290 degrees from it.
Lies on a fairly steep south-west facing slope near the border of the moor; part of a linear group of barrows lying along the contour which includes Cornwood Nos. 3 and 4 plus 5 unrecorded ones.
Barrow is 5 metres in diameter, height 0. 5 metres, with a level top. It is covered with turf, bilberry and some gorse with no stones showing. There is no traceable kerb circle.

Penn Beacon S. W. cairn '9' at SX59416258 of 6.0 metres diameter by 0.4 metres high remains a well-formed flat topped structure with only slight surface pitting.
