Earthworks of linear and curvilinear banks, between 3m and 7m wide, and rectilinear hollows, up to 18m long and 9m wide, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The banks are typically northwest to southeast and northeast to southwest aligned and are interpreted as relict field boundaries of a possible medieval or post-medieval field system. To the east (circa SX43907410), the earthworks define several rectilinear enclosures of varying size which are interpreted as evidence of a possible associated former settlement. Three rectilinear hollows also visible in this location may represent building platforms. The earthworks do not correspond with any features shown on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, suggesting that the field system and possible settlement had passed out of use by the late 19th century. Earthwork banks are visible in this location on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2019.
The earthworks here were recorded as two separate features during the Understanding Landscapes Project, including 360.4, a possible leat and 360.5, a rectangular enclosure. Possible leat 360.4 is contiguous with earthworks of this field system and so has been incorporated into this monument record.

Understanding Landscapes Project, 2020-2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Volunteer data, 360.4 360.5 (Interpretation). SDV363949.

360.4
Possible line of a leat from the spring to the mill at Rubytown: MDV62627: MILL in the Parish of Gulworthy. SX 43640 74203.
360.5
Rectangular feature adjacent to some signifiucant ground disturbance with possible building bases that may have been used in conjunction with Rubytown farm. Possible leat terminates next to this feature indicating it may possibly have been a reservoir. SX 43928 74148.
