Earthworks of banks and a ditch are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthworks occupy an area of circa 0.55 hectares of gentle south facing slope within a single land parcel. They comprise a curvilinear bank, circa 8m wide, a rectilinear platform, circa 28m long by 25m wide, and a curvilinear hollow flanked on either side by banks, between 5m and 8m wide.
One of the banks to the east possibly corresponds with a field boundary depicted on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, although the remaining earthworks are not shown on this map, or on later available historic maps.
The earthworks define a possible building platform, enclosure and trackway bound by field boundaries which may form part of a shrunken medieval settlement associated with Tackbear manor house (MDV74409). Any settlement here had evidently been abandoned by the mid-19th century.

Understanding Landscapes Project, 2020-2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Volunteer data, 673.4 (Interpretation). SDV363949.

Evidence of abandoned building in the grounds of Gilbert Cottage. Note also site of a manor house at SS257018.
