Name: | Former section of track north of West Stowford, Bradworthy |
---|
Summary
A linear ditch and bank north of West Stowford are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthworks align with a short section of extant track to the east and are interpreted as a field boundary flanking a further section of post-medieval trackway that passed out of use by the mid-19th century.

An east-west orientated ditch and bank both circa 7 metres in width are visible as subtle linear earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data.
The earthworks do not correspond with any features in the available historic maps from the mid-19th century. They are situated in the northern part of a field in parallel with an extant field boundary and align with an extant section of east-west orientated access track to the immediate east, which concludes at the bounds of the field.
The earthworks are interpreted as a field boundary flanking a section of post-medieval trackway that probably provided access to the plot to the west, and that passed out of use prior to circa 1840.
Understanding Landscapes Project, 2020-2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Volunteer data, 813.5 (Interpretation). SDV363949.
Bank not shown on epoch 1 or tithe map. Ss3055 1348
